Kennedy Disease, also known as Spinal Bulbar Muscular Atrophy or SBMA, is a rare inherited muscle wasting neurological disorder. Kennedy disease affects the motor neurons, which are responsible for movement of the arms and legs. It also affects the nerves which supply the bulbar muscles, which control breathing, swallowing, and talking. There is no cure yet, and treatment can only ease some of the symptoms. Now it would appear that ever since ownership of his first guitar, aged fourteen, Ron has written songs. Quite simply it's what he does. So when not appearing with the people's Ska band Monkey Spanner, Ron has been storing up chord progressions and sharpening his wordplay ready for this day. The thing that makes an album for me is a variety of good tunes. And this is just what Ron has served up on his first solo project, "Back on Track". Adopting the maxim, "Don't bore us - get to the chorus", he has come up with songs that bear repeated listening - not an easy thing to do. Providing invaluable assistance on the album have been Steve Rodda who played with Ron in the early days and it's his tasteful guitar work that you can hear throughout, and Steve Jinks, the musician, producer and owner of the studio where the magic happens. I have no doubt that "Back on Track will delight with its eclectic mix because by staying relevant while following his heart, Ron has come up with the perfect Indie album. Richard Roberts.
